Break the Silence NC began as a small group of parents, grandparents, kinship and foster parents who share a passion to advocate for children and families whose voices have been silenced in disclosing abuse to authorities or NCDSS. family advocates children families
Our Mission
NCDSS is not just a government agency- it is a lifeline for families in crisis, a beacon of hope for children in danger. Our mission is sacred, our duty unwavering; to provide vital services to those in need, to shield the innocent from harm. Yet, across our state, we are witnessing a betrayal of trust, a failure of accountability. Local agencies, entrusted to the welfare of our most vulnerable, are playing fast and loose with the laws and statutes meant to safeguard them. This cannot go on. Children's lives are at stake, families being torn apart. We must demand better, we must demand justice. It's time to hold those responsible to account, to ensure that every child, every family, receives the protection and support they deserve. the time for complacency is over- the time for action is now. NCDSS Policies
NCDSS has statewide polices, laws and statutes that must be followed. But the local DSS agency's blatant disregard for their own policies and statutes is unforgivable. How can they claim to protect children when they are causing them even more harm and trauma? They turn a blind eye to the true facts of abuse, and instead, remove children from their safe home and place them in the very home where they were abused. This betrayal of trust and duty is nothing short of heartbreaking and infuriating. These children deserve better, they deserve to be safe and protected. Unethical Therapists
NCDSS willingly chooses to partner with unethical, ill-equipped, and unqualified therapists who align with the twisted agendas of local agencies. These disgraceful therapists serve as the key to tearing innocent children away from their safe homes and forcing them into the arms of alleged abusers or environments filled with ongoing abuse. Despite overwhelming proof of their misconduct, censorship, and disciplinary actions taken by state licensing bodies, NCDHHS, local agencies, and courts stubbornly cling to their tainted beliefs. They shamefully stand by their biased rulings, turning a blind eye to the blatant corruption and collusion that have tainted the very fabric of justice for these vulnerable children. It is a travesty of justice that these innocent lives are being sacrificed at the altar of greed and deceit, with the very institutions meant to protect them failing them in their darkest hour. family advocates children families
Lack of Investigation
The CPS system in our state is a cruel and heartless beast, tearing families apart and leaving them helpless in its grip. It is a system that values checkboxes over the wellbeing of families, a system that silences our voices and denies us the opportunity to reunite with our precious children.
When we try to seek help from law enforcement or government officials, our cries for help fall on deaf ears. Our reports of abuse and criminal behavior are brushed aside, sent back to the very entity that has already failed us - CPS. And when we dare to speak up, we are met with retaliation, our concerns buried and ignored.
Despite the state having the resources for independent investigation and examination, CPS chooses whether or not to utilize them. And time and time again, they show little concern for the truth, sticking to their biased opinions and shutting out any evidence that may prove them wrong.
Our attorneys are powerless to bring the courts' attention to the distorted testimony and false accusations made by social workers and unethical psychologists. The courts, exhausted and unwilling to challenge CPS, leave us parents defenseless, unable to protect our children and maintain our family unity.
We are left trapped in a nightmare, stripped of our rights as parents, grandparents, foster parents and forced to watch helplessly as our families are torn apart. We deserve better, we deserve justice, and we will not rest until the CPS system is reformed and families are no longer victims of its tyranny. family advocates children families
Evaluations
Families torn apart, parents accused of unthinkable things, children's voices silenced. In a cruel twist of fate, innocent parents are being dragged through the wringer by the DSS court, forced to undergo psychological evaluations that aim to paint them in a negative light. They are given an ultimatum - comply with the unfair system and be evaluated by a biased therapist on the DSS payroll, or take matters into their own hands and pay exorbitant amounts for an independent evaluation.
But here's the heart-wrenching truth: no matter how hard they try, no matter the lengths they go to prove their innocence, the system is rigged against them. The evaluations completed by the DSS-aligned therapists suddenly label them as unfit parents, planting seeds of doubt and suspicion where there should only be love and trust. "Munchausen by Proxy", "putting allegations in their children's heads"- these are the cruel accusations thrown at them, tearing their families apart.
And even when they exercise their right for an independent evaluation, their voices are still not heard. The courts and local agencies turn a blind eye to the truth, ignoring the unbiased conclusions of the independent therapist in favor of the biased reports from the payroll therapists. It's a nightmare scenario where the truth is manipulated, justice is denied, and families are left broken and shattered.
The pain, the anguish, the injustice faced by these parents is unimaginable. Their fight for justice is a battle against a system that's stacked against them, a system that fails to protect the innocent and instead chooses to perpetrate further harm. It's a heartbreaking tale of betrayal, of loss, of a love that's torn apart by lies and deceit. It's a story that needs to be heard, a cry for justice that cannot be ignored. Body Cameras
As parents, our hearts break at the thought of our children enduring unspeakable abuse. We teach them to always speak the truth, to trust in the system designed to protect them. But what happens when that system fails our children? When social workers and GALs turn a blind eye to their cries for help, their disclosures of unimaginable horrors? It's a betrayal beyond comprehension.
The very adults who are supposed to advocate for our children, to ensure their safety and well-being, are failing them. Their voices are silenced, their stories buried, their pain ignored. How can this be allowed to continue?
We demand accountability. We demand justice. Social workers and GALs must be held to the same standards of honesty and integrity that we instill in our children. They should be required to wear body cameras, to ensure that every word spoken by a child in need is documented, that every cry for help is heard and acted upon.
Our children deserve better. They deserve to be believed, to be protected, to be given the chance to heal from the trauma they have endured. It's time for action. It is time to ensure that no child's voice is ever silenced again! Every single DSS agency in North Carolina is mandated to adhere to the laws set forth by their court - the 7b laws and statutes. It is crucial for anyone who has interacted with this agency to educate themselves on these laws and statutes. Far too often, individuals simply accept what they are given by local DSS agencies without fully understanding their rights and the protections afforded to them under the 7b laws and statutes. It is imperative that we all advocate for ourselves and those we care about by arming ourselves with knowledge and fighting for justice within the system. Stand up, speak out, and demand that your rights be upheld!

It is time for us to stand up and make our voices heard, to let our local agencies know that we are not blind to the deceit and misconduct that has been allowed to fester. Unqualified Expert Testing
NCDSS not only employs unethical and unqualified therapists, but they also depend on unqualified "experts" for drug and paternity testing. The devastating consequences of these erroneous tests have shattered lives in our state, tearing families apart and unjustly stripping parents of custody of their beloved children. It is an outrage that such incompetence and negligence is allowed to run rampant, leaving a trail of heartbreak and injustice in its wake. We must stand up and demand accountability for the lives that have been irreparably damaged by the actions of NCDSS. Our children and families deserve better - they deserve justice.
